Balearic Archive

When I’m asked about The Balearic Archive, the most frequent question is, in so many words, “what the hell is that?”

This music project, my DJing, my selections, are pan-genre. Some are 70s rock like Crosby Stills and Nash. Some are straight up dance mixes from the Pet Shop Boys or remixes of The Cure. Sometimes they sound like dub reggae, other times they are just funky and laid-back. From ambient to Wham!, they are all in that mid-tempo range, just verging on all-out dance party which could kick-off at any moment. That musical space is where the Balearic Archive lives.

I think the other important component is the listening setting. The music sounds great on well treated hi-fi equipment (like Rhizomes, my mobile hi-fi listening/dance sound system), but also to compliment swimming, sipping, and relaxing just as much as moving your body in a studio or loft space. Set and setting.
